Being a qualified secondary school teacher for over 24 years has given me the knowledge and skills to deliver CATTs amazing workshops. I am passionate about educating today's young people, so they are armed with the knowledge they need to grow up in an ever-evolving society.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. Most weekends in winter are spent standing on the side of a wet, cold and muddy football pitch cheering on my children playing football and, in the summer, sitting on the boundary of a cricket pitch enjoying the sunshine!
Board of Trustees

Johnny Barton
Chair of the Board
I have been the Chair and a Trustee at CATTs since September 2019. As Chair, I lead the Board and manage the staff team on their behalf. I am passionate about the potential CATTs hold to build awareness of cancer within 15 - 29-year-olds. Based in Manchester, I have worked in the not-for-profit sector for nearly 25 years, and am currently Head of Journey & Experience at Turning Point, a national health and social care provider who delivers services across substance use, mental health and learning disabilities, as well as wider wellbeing services from Rightsteps.

We have 2 adult children one of whom was diagnosed with cancer aged 22 years. As such I have some understanding of the impact of cancer in young adults both personally and professionally and believe the work of CATTS to be extremely important.

I am a civil servant currently working for the UK government in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development office. At the age of 21 I was diagnosed with testicular cancer during the final year of my undergraduate. Following that experience, I have volunteered my time to work with the charity Young Lives vs cancer and NHS England to ensure that young people's health care design is led by those who have experienced it.

In 2014, a group of friends and I started CATTs as a student society at the University of Manchester. I am so proud of what it has subsequently grown into, namely a national charity which collaborates with and trains young people to help raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer.
Today I am a junior doctor working in Kent, and I am more ambitious for the charity than ever! Engaging with more people in their teens and twenties to empower them with the knowledge and confidence of knowing when they should see their GP. As well as sharing the simple life choices that can significantly reduce the chance of getting cancer at any stage of life.

At the age of 21, I was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma after over six months of pushing for tests and answers. Since finishing treatment, I have been a passionate advocate for raising awareness of cancer in young people, having worked with a number of cancer charities over the last six years.

I am a Business Development Manager at Cancer Research Horizons (Cancer Research UK), where I work to develop and commercialise novel research findings arising from CRUK-funded research through partnership with the life sciences industry.
Prior to joining CRUK, I studied Natural Sciences with Management at the University of Cambridge, specialising in Neuroscience, Psychology and Behaviour. I am passionate about ensuring that under-represented communities are equipped with the right information to engage with their health in the face of systems that often work against them, and hope to work with CATTs to continue to drive change for these communities.

I am a BSc (Hons) Psychology and MSc Management graduate from the University of Kent. Following on from this, I was elected as Vice-President Welfare and Community at the University of Kent Students' Union - Kent Union for 2022-2024. I am also a Trustee of Kent Union. I have extensive experience volunteering in the Higher Education sector, including sitting on the Student Minds Student Advisory Committee. I see joining CATTs as a Trustee as an exciting opportunity to empower and equip young people with the knowledge of detecting signs and symptoms of cancer earlier on.
